Association of Consulting Engineering Companies-Canada South Korea bound for FIDIC
A delegation of Canadian engineers is poised to attend the upcoming International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) 2012 conference in Seoul, South Korea.
?Canada does not exist in a bubble,? said John Gamble, president of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies-Canada (ACEC).
?We are a part of a global marketplace and an important, and influential, part of that marketplace.?
Canada ranks fifth in the world in terms of exports of engineering services.
The theme of this year?s conference, to be held Sept. 9 to 12, is ?Beyond Green. A new Paradigm.?
It will highlight the consulting engineering industry?s successes and achievements in helping society implement sustainable solutions to today?s ?urgent, global challenges.? Gamble, who will be accompanied by ACEC chair Murray Thompson, said the issue of sustainable development is very much ?front of mind? in Canada, as well as at the international level.
At FIDIC, Canada is currently represented on the federation?s executive committee by Chris Newcomb of McElhanney Consulting Services and on the business practices committee by Rick Prentice of Stantec.
At the conference, a number of Canadians will be making presentations to the more than 600 delegates.
The lineup includes former ACEC chair and FIDIC president John Boyd, who will be speaking on the green challenge in the marketplace. Kerry Rudd of Associated Engineering will discuss working greener and smarter.
Selena Wilson of McElhanney Consulting Services will chair the young professionals? forum. Jeremy Carkner of Morrison Hershfield, winner of ACEC?s Allen D. Williams Scholarship, will be participating in the young professionals? program.
In all, upwards of 16 Canadian delegates are expected to attend.
Key themes for the 2012 conference are the green challenge in the marketplace, new perspectives on green growth, and working greener and smarter.
FIDIC, which celebrates its 100th anniversary next year, represents more than 80 national consulting engineering associations around the world. ACEC is one of its member organizations.
